India to Open New Casino Resort in 2014
Due to recent changes in the Indian gambling regulatory system, India will open its first world class gaming resort in Daman, close to Mumbai. The gambling establishment, developed by Delta Corporation, will be the first top casino resort to be constructed outside of Goa. At this point in time, Delta Corporation operates three casino boats which do not comply with local gambling laws, since they are run offshore. More than that, Delta recently declared that is has already bought a land to construct a similar resort in Sri Lanka, due to the high potential of the local gambling market.
The new Daman resort will have a 60,000 square feet casino area and a hotel which will offer 187 rooms. By opening this new resort, Indian authorities are making an effort to increase tourism in the area, and eventually boost the economy. Since operators cannot buy turnkey casino software and start online casinos in India, residents who are eligible to gamble usually access foreign gaming sites, which unfortunately draw the attention from land-based casinos. Even so, Delta is seeing a great opportunity in developing a casino outside of Goa, the only region which is currently the only place in India where brick-and-mortar casinos can be found.
