Macau Gambling Market Surpasses US
The small region of Macau succeeded in becoming the world’s largest gambling hub. The only place in China where casinos are legal is only an hour away from Hong Kong, 2.5 million tourists visiting it every month. The current gaming industry of Macau generates more revenue than the entire US gaming and betting industry, many gamblers being especially attracted to baccarat games played in the region’s luxurious gambling establishments. This is what makes Macau the perfect place for gaming providers to offer their casino software solutions.
Several Macau casinos are owned by the four largest American operators who managed to survive the recession thanks to customers which gambled in the Chinese region. Since 1999, when China once again assumed sovereignty of the Macau territory from Portugal, American operators have tried to do business in the region. At this moment, Macau’s annual revenue has risen to $38 billion, an amount which is four times larger than the one generated by Atlantic City and Las Vegas casinos.
Macau is currently gambling its way into the largest gaming boom that ever existed and, if Las Vegas would want to compete with it, its casinos should be visited by six times as many gamblers as it is now. US operators have also imported baccarat, which has huge success among Macau gamblers, along with other Asian sensations and Chinese delicacies, trying to set up VIP rooms which resemble the ones in Macau and are preferred by high rollers. Macau is expected to become even more popular in the future, considering that US laws are constantly changing and the competition will become fierce between the two regions.
