Experts Unveil Whether Poker is a Game of Chance or Skill

A team of researchers has recently decided to conduct a study in order to find out if poker can indeed be considered a game of skill rather than a game of chance. Poker is nowadays seen mostly as a gambling game, especially due to intensive marketing through the fast-growing online gaming industry, which promotes poker as a game of chance which can be played by any legal-aged player out there.
Poker is currently considered a game of chance in almost all countries which legalized it, but poker players are saying that it should rather be considered a game of skill or even a sport which involves several aptitudes. While examining several individuals who played online poker and were given prearranged cards, the researchers tried to find out in what manner card distribution was more important than the players’ skills, whether they were poker novices or experts.
During the study, three novice player and three experts played an online game of “Texas Hold’em” and were given several good cards, average cards or bad cards, each player being dealt specific cards. The results showed that even if the experts who were given bad cards succeeded in minimizing their losses, in the end, they did not win more money than novice players.
