French Gaming Regulatory Body May Merge With Anti-Doping Authority
French media agencies report that a bill has recently been brought forward by the National Assembly regulators, which presents the proposal of merging the anti-doping agency AFLD with the online gambling regulatory body ARJEL. The two will supposedly come together as the Authority on the Integrity of Sport and Online Gambling (AISJEL). By creating this agency, regulators will potentially see the creation of a stronger authority which will supervise French online gambling activities, including sportsbooks and other online gambling sites.
Lawmakers are looking forward to taking part in the creation of an authority with enhanced powers which will put its mark on the gaming and betting industry and reduce public spending in a time of economic recession. The new regulatory body will be formed of two sanctioning commissions, one of them being dedicated to fighting against illegal gambling operations, while the other will prevent doping. Besides that, the new authority will hold campaigns which will concentrate on promoting health.
This proposal was submitted by Gerald Darmanin, which is already supported by twenty six members of the National Assembly’s commission for cultural affairs. The bill is expected to be enacted into law as soon as it is revised.
