Half Year UK Gambling Results Revealed
The UK Gambling Commission has released the bi-annual gaming and betting stats, the statistics being based on results regarding casinos, lotteries, arcades, betting, gaming machines providers and remote gambling. The results unveiled that land based gambling surpassed online and mobile gaming. The gross gaming yield (GGY) for the industry was GBP 6.3 billion from April 2012 to March 2013, figure which was up GBP 0.44 billion from the same period of time during 2011 to 2012. The land-based betting sector of the industry was up 51 percent for retail betting venues, which generated GBP 3.19 billion of the total GGY.
Land casino gambling in the UK accounted for 15 percent of the gaming industry, casinos generating a GGY of GBP 961 million. On the other hand, online and mobile gambling accounted for 13 percent of the gaming market, this sector collecting GBP 832.1 million in GGY. Other gambling activities like bingo (11 percent), arcades (5 percent) and lotteries (5 percent) also appealed to eligible UK punters. When it comes to online casinos, the revenue for this sector was up from GBP 512 million to GBP 863 million, the GGY doubling to GBP 41.7 million. Statistics showed that slots were preferred by the majority of punters, followed by online table games and online bingo. Casino software developers and online casino operators who are making their mark on the UK gambling scene are seeing positive results which can only lead to a prosperous development of their businesses.
