Macau Casinos Hit Record Gaming Revenue in October
The Macau land based casino industry hit a new record in October, gross gaming revenues reaching no less than 36.5 billion patacas ($4.57 billion). The new figure surpassed the previous 31.34 billion patacas record generated in March and even topped the 36 billion patacas predicted by gaming analysts. Furthermore, gaming revenues for October increased 31.7 percent in comparison to the same period of time last year, mainly due to the flow of mainland Chinese visitors who chose to spend their Golden Week holiday at the luxurious Macau casinos. The total number of casino players who visited the gaming hub from mainland China increased 5.7 percent during the vacation.
Gross gaming revenue in Macau was up 18 percent to 297 billion patacas ($37 billion) for the first 10 months of the current year and could soon surpass the $38 billion generated for the whole of 2012. For comparison, the Macau gambling revenue for last year was six times higher than the one generated in the Las Vegas Strip.
