North Carolina Authorities Continue Banning Sweepstakes Gambling
This Wednesday, authorities from Cumberland County, North Carolina, conducted an operation regarding illegal sweepstakes casinos, applying fines and arresting five citizens. The casinos are also called sweepstakes cafes which offer games very much alike bingo, which is currently legal in the state of North Carolina.
Even though some of the cafes’ business owners protested that they made their best to change their gambling cafes so that they would be in line with the North Carolina legislation, the authorities announced that sweepstakes casinos and cafes are still not legal. The president of the Internet Based Sweepstakes Operators organization, Chase Brooks, also stated that it is unfair to them to close their business, since most of their customers are ladies over the age of 40, who could probably be relatives of the deputies who arrested the business owners. Brooks also expressed the idea that land casinos in North Carolina consider sweepstakes cafes rivals and are feeling threatened, so the lawmakers are insisting on keeping the cafes illegal.
The North Carolina regulation system leaves sweepstakes cafes behind, stating loud and clear that they will continue to be banned for a long period of time, even though sweepstake casino owners are struggling to convince the federal lawmakers that this is not an industry that has a negative impact on the state’s economic and social health.
