Singapore Civil Servants Requested to Declare Casino Visits

Singapore government officials recently declared that all civil servants who visit land based casinos will be requested to declare every visit, this discussion being held after an official of the anti-graft agency used money which belonged to the state in order to gamble at casinos earlier this year. Thus, authorities announced that all civil servants must declare any visit during the first seven days after they purchased a pass that allows them to access any casino for unlimited time or entered one of the two gambling establishments for more than four times per month.
Spokespeople for the Public Service Division said that this decision has been taken due to the fact that civil servants have to offer positive examples to the society while maintaining high standards of behavior and not give a bad reputation to the public service. This endeavor is a consequence of several corruption cases, the most well-known being the one which involved Edwin Yeo Seow Hiang, an assistant director at Singapore’s graft-busting authority. The man was caught earlier this year stealing $1.76 million of state money in order to gamble at land based casinos.
