Opposition to Iowa Senate Study Bill 1068

There are some supporters of the Iowa Senate Study Bill, but for every supporter there are just as many officials against it as well. The main purpose of the bill is to protect all the Iowans who are participating in online gambling and putting themselves at risk of being slapped with a major charge. The bill aims to reduce the punishment of being caught gambling over the internet down to a civil infraction from a felony.
Supporters of the bill point out that thousands of people in the state go to foreign online gambling websites and those people shouldn’t be charged with a felony for doing something so harmless because the Federal government has not updated their policies.
There are plenty of critics of the bill who say that by allowing existing casinos to open online casino they are spreading gambling throughout the state. They also make the claim that it would be hard to keep minors away from the games if they had access through the Internet.
Although most of the supporters keep stating that enabling online gambling is not about creating profits, critics point out that it would create a substantial amount of profits for the state. It isn’t clear whether or not the bill is going to be approved allowing people to participate in online gambling.
