Spanish Gamblers Spend Money At Illegal Gambling Sites
A study conducted by the researchers at the Universidad Carlos III showed that Spanish residents lowered their gambling budgets in 2012, their expenditures falling from 9.4% to 7.7%. Operators who are interested in how to start an online casino might like to know that these figures are not reflecting the reality, analysts saying that Spaniards are actually gambling a lot more money online, even if they are not playing at legal online casinos.
One of the university’s professors expressed the idea that no less than 85% of all Spanish residents engage in some sort of gambling activities, many of them hoping for some luck during a period of tough economic conditions. When it comes to online gambling, 4.4 percent residents aged between 18 and 75 years old confirmed that they have gambled online sometimes during the last three months. These results do not match with the ones provided by the Spanish gambling regulator, La Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, which shows that many Spaniards are actually registered on gambling sites which do not own Spanish gambling licenses.
This is a consequence of the fact that Spanish citizens are more attracted to foreign gambling sites which offer a wider range of games and usually offers better rates of return. The study showed that 21.4% of the individuals who gambled online did not register on any site which holds a Spanish gambling license.
